"A little bit of everything" is the guiding principle of the Mettler family, who have been running the characterful and historic inn and bakery since 1899. The Hirschen Wald has six renovated, spacious and comfortable rooms that combine new and old; a small bakery with an oven that is more than a hundred years old, from which the aroma of bread, plaited bread and numerous specialties comes; two cozy rooms with a 250-year-old wall buffet, where homely and regional cuisine is served; and a hall for up to 60 people with a view of the Alpstein and the hills of Appenzellerland. The family business is located outside the village of Wald, surrounded by meadows and forests at 1050 m above sea level.
